Samantha Wohlmacher MS CF SLP
Briefly describe your experience and education.
I first discovered the field of speech language pathology, as a high school senior, in an American Sign Language course. I immediately knew this profession was for me. A few months later, I moved from Long Island, NY to Durham, NH where I attended the University of New Hampshire. In May 2013, I received my bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders with a minor in Nutrition. I continued my education at New York University and received a master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders in September 2019. As a graduate clinician, I trained at NYU Langone Rusk Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation, the VA New York Harbor Healthcare Systems, and I.S. 10 Horace Greeley Middle School. My clinical interests include pediatric feeding disorders and motor speech disorders, including Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
I first learned of Miracle Farm Speech Therapy while attending the University of New Hampshire and nannying for one of Joanne’s clients. I loved the creative, fun, and supportive atmosphere created at MFST. After falling in love with the New England area and witnessing this wonderful pediatric private practice, I decided to move back to pursue a clinical fellowship at MFST.
Why do you love speech therapy?
I love using my creativity during speech therapy sessions! Not only do I enjoy coming up with fun and creative activities, but I love the challenge of using my creativity to find the best treatment approach for each child. Every child is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Finding what works best for each child and watching that child reach success, is what I love about my job.
What are three words someone would use to describe you?
Self-driven, kind, inquisitive
What are your passions outside of work?
I recently moved to the area, so I love exploring the city of Boston, as well as all of the lovely New England coastal towns. Following my experiences studying abroad in Ireland and Sweden, I have also developed a passion for traveling internationally. My list of places to travel abroad continues to grow; however, a long road trip across the United States is next on my list.
If you could be any animal what would it be?
A sea turtle – I would love to live a long and happy life in the ocean.
